With only a few sleeps to go until the new year, it seems like a good moment to consider the most pressing issues confronting British horse racing.
None is more important than finding a permanent chairman of the British Horseracing Authority. Predominantly because there is currently a huge void of influence in Westminster that will damage racing’s interests if not filled.
This is a trickier task than meets the eye. The roles of the BHA and its incoming chairman are in a state of uncertainty. The issue being how closely to regulation can commercial activity sit?
This uncertainty will be putting off the heaviest-hitting candidates on the headhunters’ books; but the solution lies close to home….
