There is still life in the racing career of Chautauqua after the popular grey sprinter jumped cleanly from the barriers at Flemington on Friday morning.

Chautauqua was noticeably playful in the barriers, shaking his head and appearing fractious and while he wasn’t the quickest into stride, he still jumped comfortably with the field.

The six-time Group 1 winner will still be required to successfully come out of the gates in an official barrier trial before he is allowed to race again.

Racing NSW stewards had placed an embargo on Chautauqua due to his failure to jump in several recent trials in Sydney.

The ownership group of Chautauqua then successfully applied for stewards to allow further time for the problematic galloper to continue work with a behaviourist, in the hope his manners would improve.

Sydney-based jockey Tommy Berry travelled to Melbourne for the jumpout and immediately took to twitter following the successful trial.

More to come…
