Picks made today for fast track and on turf.

Race 1

2 – Meter – Big winner first out comes back with strong connections.

1 – Saints Girl – No knocks just curious this one shortens up after romp at mile.

Race 2

4 – Run Your Race – Taking a bomb here as this one finally gets to turf.

6 – Tapizone – Woke up a bit with the added blinkers in last; repeat gets the money.

Race 3

8 – Tessas Treat – Not sure what happened in last race but throw out and this one fits.

1 – Grandmas Princess – First off the claim and drops down for a win and draws rail.

Race 4

7 – Berniestrike – Like this one off the break as all turf tries have been competitive.

4 – Extra Credit – Jockey jumps off another to ride this one back for leading trainer Cox.

Race 5

7 – Snapper Bite – Love that Asmussen throws a claim in every now and then; strong

4 – Pocketball – Has produced some big balloons at times.

Race 6

12 – Whatwillbewillbe – Second start is the angle here; not much to beat today.

1 – Tizaprincessa – First time starter – working well – trainer good with these types.

Race 7

8 – Backseat Promises – Clever name – horse working well for first start here.

5 – Royal Road – Taking a logical drop here for Asmussen to get the first win.

Race 8

5 – Golden Dragon – moved up menacingly in last but tired – tighter for this effort.

3 – Fascilitator – Jockey might have chosen this one – no reason won’t love the turf.

Race 9

2 – Bentonville – Trainer spots ‘em well at this meet and is bred to be fast early.

4 – Tensas’ Boy – Working well, draws leading rider and has been working fast.

Around the Track

Today’s eighth race is the Black Gold Stakes named after the winner of the 1924 Kentucky Derby – Black Gold one of the few horses to win the Louisiana Derby and then the Kentucky Derby. After he was retired to a stud career, Black Gold made a comeback without earning a win and tragically died here at the track. Black Gold is buried in the infield of the Fair Grounds to honor his racing career.

Best Bet

Our Best Bet today will be in Race 4 — No. 7 Berniestrike. I like these layoff horses late in the meet as they are ready to run and win.

Good Luck and may they all come home safely.
