Timeform take you through the card at Chelmsford on Thursday evening…
“…he may be worth siding with from his lowly mark.”
Timeform on Eye of the Water
17:15 – EYE OF THE WATER (15) was faced with a tough assignment at Kempton 8 days ago, having to concede weight to the field, seeming to excel himself but having nothing to show for it – finishing sixth. He’s due to go up 7 lb for that, meaning that connections have sent him here, and he may be worth siding with from his lowly mark. It is an open heat, however, and Cognac Blue and Caramel Curves are both worthy of consideration.
17:45 – An intriguing novice event, in which it looks worth siding with the newcomer, DIVINE IMAGE (3), who makes plenty of appeal on paper (an expensive purchase by Scat Daddy) and represents a yard which is more than capable of getting one ready first time out. The biggest threat will come from the Frankel filly Jadeerah, who will win one of these contests sooner or later, but the Divine Image’s strength in the market this morning is a hint she could be above-average.
18:15 – COCKNEY BOY (3) went off too hard on the fibresand at Southwell on his most recent start last month, forcing the pace but headed 3 furlongs out and folding tamely. He has dropped to a basement mark now however, just 2 lb higher than for his last success, and could find today’s surface suits him better. He may prove difficult to peg back at this lowly level. Slipalongtrevaskis was a good second here last week and is respected, while Ahfad is one to note on first start for Gary Moore.
18:45 – PURE SHORES (6) can have her most recent run here at the end of October ignored, considering that the headwind did her no favours considering the positive tactics tried on her, and she was a spent force a furlong out. She was improving prior to that however, making her challenge late in the day when winning at Nottingham and Bath respectively on her two starts prior and she may not have stopped winning yet now 5 lb higher than her last winning mark. Firmament has had a frustrating year, but is capable from this sort of mark.
19:15 – ROSINA (3) was unlucky not to win at Kempton on her most recent start in October, coming back from further than her rival that day, and she looks to have returned to form. As such, she has leading claims now 4 lb lower than her last winning mark, and gets the vote to score with Adam Kirby booked to ride. Becker shaped nicely last time and could provide a danger along with Chookie Dunedin.
19:45 – LE PRECIEUX (1) is better known for his exploits in the National Hunt scene than on the Flat, but his first run on the All-Weather to finish fourth at Kempton in October was a fair effort, and with Never To Be Seen a non-runner this morning, this is a particularly weak contest. He gets the vote to open his account ahead of the exposed Alacritas.
20:15 – LUXFORD (7) looked a winner in waiting when second on her first start for the Gary Moore team at Kempton last month; making headway a furlong out having been held up, and finishing with a rattle to get within 3 lengths of the winner. Moore does well with this type of recruit, and with Luxford now 6 lb below her last winning mark, she appeals as one who could put together a good run of form. Last-time-out winner Hidden Dream is the obvious danger ahead of River Cafe.
20:45 – YOUR BAND (2) had too much to do when second and bidding to seal a double at Kempton 6 days ago, running well but not being seen to best effect; having plenty to do two furlongs out and hanging right, before keeping on well in the closing stages. He should have a strong pace to aim at this time around and is one to be interested in off the same mark as last time.
