It’s been over a year now since we all had to say our fond farewells to David Levitch: Louisville basketball player. With the 2018 Kentucky Derby rapidly approaching, it’s time for us to say some hellos to the Baby Faced Assassin’s new persona, David Levitch: Expert Handicapper.

Since graduating from U of L, Levitch has launched TheHorseCapper.com, where he serves up his picks on a daily basis for a modest fee. He’s also been doing some writing for publications like Horse Racing Nation.

“I still handwrite all my choices every day,” Levitch said. “I’m not just throwing names out there and not giving it a second thought. I put as much work into handicapping as anyone I know. I hope that shows in the payouts people who use my picks have been getting.”

A mainstay at Churchill for years, Levitch spent the summer before his senior year at Louisville interning with successful local trainer Mark Casse. Getting up at 4 a.m. and mucking stalls gave Levitch a different perspective on the sport than watching the races from the grandstands or the Turf Club did. It also added to his love for an knowledge of the sport.

“When he signed up for the job I was really apprehensive about it because he’s a young guy, and a guy that I look up to,” Casse said. “I look up to the UofL basketball program, I said, ‘I hope I don’t have to say, ‘Come on dude, you need to get here on time.’’ He beat me to the barn most of the time.”

You can follow Levitch’s horse racing picks on Twitter @Paddock_Prince and check out his handicapping site at TheHorseCapper.com. With both Derby season and the Keeneland meet up next on the docket, now is the time to lean on the Baby Faced Assassin like it’s a late January road game at Pitt.
