SECRET POTION looks ready for another win after a couple of good placed efforts at Chepstow and Bath. He is still below his last winning mark and is right at home over this trip. David Probert got a good tune out of him in Wales when he was beaten a neck so they should be right there again.
Essaka continues in good form and has scored around here before. He gets on well with today’s claiming rider who was on board for his good third at Wolverhampton last time.
WAR CHARIOT was very green on his debut at Beverley last month but showed some promise to finish fourth and should build on the experience. Silvestre De Sousa is a good booking and he wouldn’t have to be anything special to take this.
Water Diviner is dropping in class after finishing a good second at Chester last time and should be on the premises again.
DIVA D was impressive hen winning on her handicap debut at Wolverhampton and should have a lot more to offer. There’s always a concern when a horse switches surfaces but this fast ground should be fine. A 6lb rise in the weights gives her every chance of following up.
Red Armour battled well to win a maiden over course and distance last time and has been given a very fair opening mark.
CATAN followed up a game win at Ffos Last with a narrow defeat on the all-weather at Chelmsford and looks to have a lot more to offer with just three runs under his belt. He enjoyed this trip on his past two runs and trainer Roger Charlton doesn’t send too many to Brighton.
Bagatino looks a nice newcomer for Charlie Appleby, while Startego looks open to improvement on his first start for Archie Watson after a good second at Carlisle last time.
ALLEGIANT clocked up a big personal best when winning at Epsom last time with plenty left in the tank. He is taking a fair drop in class here over a similar trip so the 6lb penalty shouldn’t be an issue.
Narjes has a strong record here with a first and second on her past two trips, both over this trip. She is up just 1lb for that good second last time and should be right there again.
BUZZ LIGHTYERE has come down the weights to the mark that saw him win a better race than this at Ascot in July. That was over this mile trip and he has winning form around this quirky venue too. He’s just moved yards and that could give him a boost too.
Hedging was third in a tight finish at Leicester last time and should be happier upped to this distance.
WIDNES was a little unlucky to finish a close-up fourth at Yarmouth last time when getting no luck in running. He has had a drop down the weights and seems right at home over this sort of trip.
Sing A Rainbow ran out of stamina and may not have been right at home on the all-weather at Chelmsford last time. She had earlier won well here and this trip looks more suitable.
BUXLOW BELLE showed promise from a slightly higher mark on her last visit here, when finishing third last month. With so little weight on her back, it would be no surprise to see her go close in this modest contest.
Kirkland Forever scored over course and distance last time and a 5lb rise is more than offset by her rider’s claim. She won’t be far away again.
