The main race at either side of the Irish Sea this weekend is the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby, where Aidan O’Brien’s SAXON WARRIOR (NAP) is looking a really strong favourite at 4/7 with Betfred to put the wrongs of his Epsom Derby run right.

He had the coffin box there in stall 1 and stumbled leaving it, yet still managed to run a really good race to finish 4th behind Masar.

This track will suit him a lot better, the opposition won’t be quite as stiff and with Ballydoyle farming this race in recent years, Saxon Warrior looks the one you want on your side in the 5.15pm Curragh showpiece on Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, the Curragh also hosts the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes, a 1m2f race for fillies’. There’s any number of potential Ballydoyle runners here, but Magical (nb) would be very interesting if taking up the engagement at 4.20pm.
