OUR experts give you an early shot at finding a winner as they look at the major races around the nation this weekend.

Last week … Six winners. The Daily Telegraph’s John Davis steered punters into Plot Twist ($7.10) before heading for a winter break. Chris Vernuccio was on fire first-up with The Autumn Sun ($4.40) and Dark Dream ($4.20). Nick Quinn and Glenn McFarlane were also on The Autumn Sun bandwagon. Stephen Zammit had to wait until the last with Noire ($3.50), while Lincoln Moore was on the money with his value bet Pale Ale ($4.50).

ROSEHILL GARDENS (9 races, start 11.25am), IPSWICH (9 races, 11.40am), MOONEE VALLEY (10 races, 11.45am), MORPHETTVILLE (8 races, 12.26pm), BELMONT (8 races, 2.33pm)

RAY THOMAS (Daily Telegragh) Form: 151s3

GRESHAM (Race 2, No. 1 — $3.10)

Has struck a rich vein for form with three wins from four starts this campaign. The Chris Waller runner is coming back slightly in distance but he’s drawn well, races on speed making his own luck, and should prove hard to run down again.

Value bet: INTUERI (Race 5, No. 4 — $10)

MATT JONES (Daily Telegraph) Form: 95123

BLACK ON GOLD (Race 6, No. 5 — $6)

He can win this race as long as the track continues to dry out. He’s primed for a 2000m run now and can turn the tables on Dagny.

Value bet: INTUERI (Race 5, No. 4 — $10)

STEPHEN ZAMMIT (Daily Telegragh) Form: 152s1

GRESHAM (Race 2, No. 1 — $3.10)

Each time Chris Waller raises the bar for this gelding, he proves right up to the task. Can rack up a winning hat-trick here.

Value bet: HUNTER JACK (Race 5, No. 3 — $11)

BRAD DAVIDSON (Sky Racing) Form: 51863

MANOLO BLAHNIQ (Race 9, No. 4 — $4.40)

Was pretty good first-up over 1100m. The run didn’t look anything super but they came home in very slick figures and out to 1300m should be ideal. He looks the horse to beat.

Value bet: HIS MAJESTY (Race 8, No. 1 — $14)

SHAYNE O’CASS (Sportsman) Form: 182×3

BEST GUESS (Race 8, No. 5 — $8)

Kerrin McEvoy has ridden this horse three times for two wins and a second, and he was aboard in a recent barrier trial. Best Guess is 3s 1-0-1 at home, 2s 0-1-1 fresh, 6s 2-1-2 at the trip, two for two on slow. Ticks every box.

Value bet: TOULOUSE (Race 1, No. 5 — $9.50)

DARREN PRENDERGAST (SuperRacing). Form: 182×4

IRISH BET (Race 1, No. 2 — $3.20)

Gets a swing in the weights on Ronstar and can turn the tables after a fast-finishing third last start.

Value bet: NURSE KITCHEN (Race 6, No. 4 — $7)

CHRIS VERNUCCIO (SuperRacing). Form: 111×1

MISS LEONIDAS (Race 7, No. 2 — $3.60)

Three-year-old filly is starting to put it all together and is well-placed to win in the city after running third at Flemington last week.

Value bet: MAGIC CONSUL (Race 9, No. 10 — $5.50)

NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: 20731

ARTIE DEE TWO (Race 3, No. 5 — $2.50)

From the powerful Darren Weir stable and won well two starts ago over 1200 metres. A distance specialist with four wins from eight attempts and looks an early bank builder on the program.

NATHAN EXELBY (The Courier-Mail). Form: 40313

TRADESMAN (Race 7, No. 2 — $1.75)

A shade of odds-on seems a fair price for an in-form Darren Weir runner dropping way back in grade after acquitting himself well at WFA last start. Traditionally a race for lightweights, Tradesman looks well placed with just 3kg over the limit, getting the perfect run just behind the speed.

Value bet: SPOT ON SPUD (Race 3, No. 5 — $23)

BEN SCADDEN (The Advertiser) Form: 2732x

THORONDOR (Race 1, No. 2)

Couldn’t have been more impressive when dominant debut winner here a fortnight ago. Trainer Robbie Laing has a big opinion of him and only needs to hold that form to win again here.

Value bet: DANGER DEAL (Race 2, No. 1)

LINCOLN MOORE (The Advertiser) Form: 03126

CASINO CLUB (Race 3, No. 11)

Good win first-up for new stable before taking on the better mares in the Listed Centaurea Stakes last time. Looks a nice option for her down in the weights and sure to take beating.

Value bet: IGITUR (Race 7, No. 8)
