LUBINKA (4.05, York, nap) is my idea of the best bet on the York card.
It’s not the strongest Oaks trial we will see this spring and this Lingfield winner’s form stands up well alongside the form of the three ahead of her in the betting.
Amourice, who was second to Lubinka, has since won a competitive Doncaster handicap, and Peter Chapple-Hyam, her trainer, is in form.
The favourite, Highgarden, is definitely worth taking on as she was stuffed when expected to win a far weaker race than today’s at Sandown last time.
If she could not win that afternoon, she’s not going to win today.
HARRY ANGEL (3.30, York) is rated the world’s top sprinter on turf – quite an accolade.
The downside of winning two Group Ones last year is that he has to give 5lb to his rivals to even things up.
The betting is 4-5 Harry Angel, 3-1 last year’s winner Tasleet.
There is not as much between them at the weights as the betting suggests but I would be disappointed if the favourite does not win.
HONEY BADGER (4.55, Yarmouth, nb) is back on the same mark as his last win at Newcastle.
COCKLEY BECK (8.05, Perth) is expected to improve for the application of cheek pieces.
Whether she has the stamina for three miles is another matter!
