Entries will be taken and post positions drawn Tuesday for the $16 million Pegasus World Cup Championship Invitational Series races set for Saturday at Gulfstream Park.
The draw, to be held inside Frankey’s Sports Bar at Gulfstream Park, begins at 11:30 a.m. ET and can be viewed at both and .
Breeders’ Cup Classic winner and 2018 Horse of the Year finalist Accelerate will be the likely favorite making his final career start in the third running of the $9 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1).
Also among the Pegasus contenders are 2018 Florida Derby (G1) winner Audible, 2018 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) winner City of Light, 2018 Cigar Mile (G1) winner Patternrecogntion; 2017 Clark Handicap (G1) winner Seeking the Soul; multiple graded-stakes winner Gunnevera, an earner of more than $4 million lifetime; and Mexican superstar Kukulkan, undefeated in 14 starts.
Yoshida, a Grade 1 winner on turf and dirt, returns to the grass for the inaugural $7 million Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1). Winner of the Old Forester Turf Classic (G1) last spring, he ran fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Classic after winning the Woodward (G1) in September.
Hall of Famer Bill Mott-trained stablemate Channel Maker and Next Shares are also Grade 1 winners, while Japanese-bred Group 1 winner Aerolithe and Irish-bred Group 2 winner Magic Wand lend an international flavor to the Pegasus Turf.
The Pegasus World Cup and Pegasus World Cup Turf – the richest races on either surface in North America – headline a blockbuster 12-race program featuring nine stakes, six graded, worth $17.125 million in purses. First race post time is 11:30 a.m. ET Saturday.
