The Breeders’ Cup is looking into offering
pari-mutuel future wagering on the 2018 World Championships, which will be held
Nov. 2-3 at Churchill Downs.

According
to Matt Hegarty of the Daily Racing Form
, which obtained documents on the future wagering and spoke with racing officials, the bets still needs approval but two pools could open this Friday at noon ET for the Breeders’ Cup Classic and the Breeders’ Cup Distaff before closing Sunday at 6 p.m.

The Breeders’ Cup plans to open two pools Aug. 31-Sept.
2 and two more pools Oct. 5-7, a weekend with multiple Breeders’ Cup preps.
The weekend of Aug. 31 would offer wagering on the
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner and the Juvenile winner’s sire while the October weekend would offer wagering on the Classic and the Breeders’ Cup
Turf.

The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission is scheduled
to meet Tuesday, with Churchill Downs seeking approval of Breeders’ Cup wagers
to be offered this year.

If approved, all future wagering pools will offer 15
individual betting interests and the field entry. The minimum wager would be
$2 and takeout would be Churchill Downs’ win rate of 17.5 percent.

The Breeders’ Cup offered future wagering from 2002-03
but there was not enough interest from handicappers to keep the bets going.
