As this is the final column of the season I’d like to start by thanking all the staff at Musley Bank who have worked so hard to make it another successful campaign for the yard.

The highlight was the victory of Sands Of Mali in the QIPCO British Champions Sprint at Ascot. We’d always believed he was a Group One horse and to go and see him win one in the autumn was very satisfying.

The two-year-olds have enjoyed a good year which is encouraging and we’re looking forward to what 2019 has in store.

But before then we have a nice team in action on Saturday starting with Scofflaw and Withernsea in the Marathonbet Supports Responsible Gambling Apprentice Handicap at Doncaster.

The former has been extremely disappointing and he wouldn’t want any more rain. He’ll take his chance though. Withernsea is deteriorating but so is his mark. In contrast he’d relish more cut and I’d love to see him run well for his owner.

Bataar makes his debut in division one of the Download The Marathonbet App Cock O’The North EBF Maiden Stakes. I’d be surprised if he could win a race like this first time up but it’s nice to get a run into him before the end of the year.

Defence Treaty is a horse I like in division two. He was disappointing at York last time and needs to bounce back but goes nicely at home and it will be interesting to see how he fares.

I thought Great Prospector ran a good, solid race at Redcar last time. He’s a horse who has struggled on the very fast ground this season but a reproduction of his last effort would give him a shout in the Visit marathonbet.co.uk Handicap.

Coolagh Magic is a horse we like and he works nicely. He has his first run since a wind operation in the Marathonbet Live Casino Nursery and I’d like to see him go well for all it’s competitive.

Akela Moon and Robeam kick-start our Chelmsford team in the Bet toteplacepot At totesport.com Nursery. The former wears a tongue-tie for the first time as she’s had a few little issues with her wind and hopefully it will help.

Robeam hasn’t run for a while but goes there very fit and very well. We’ll see what happens.

We took Wirral Girl to the Tattersalls Horses-In-Training Sales but she only made 6,000 guineas which surprised me. She’s a good, hardy filly and the Bet toteswinger At totesport.com Claiming Stakes represents a drop in class so she’s entitled to go well.

I thought Showmethedough ran okay at Windsor last time and if he copes with the surface he could go close in the Bet totescoop6 At totesport.com Handicap.
