IT’S a massive punting day at York as the Ebor meeting comes to an end with a bang.
That’s not to say there are not betting opportunities elsewhere though, so here are Sun Racing’s best bet and each-way selection for each meeting.
1.50 Lord Glitters – This is a big drop in class for David O’Meara’s consistent five-year-old and he can do the business. On his three starts in Group company this year he’s the one to beat, and York is the kind of course that will really suit this strong traveller.
3.40 Montaly – Returns to the scene of his win in last year’s Lonsdale Cup and, more importantly, is now back to that winning mark. He’s not been in the same form since but has been contesting Group races, and this is a slight drop in class.
2.40 Magnetic Charm – Won very nicely in a good maiden last time out and is surely capable of improving again considering the quarters she comes from. Doesn’t look the strongest of races and it’s a good opportunity for her to pick up some black type.
2.05 Arod – Capable of very useful form at his best and although he hasn’t reached that level for a while, he loves Goodwood. Conditions will be perfect and if he can get an easy lead he’ll be tough to peg back.
2.15 Glory – Now goes handicapping off a nice mark following three decent maiden performances. Can take advantage of a couple of out of form rivals here.
3.30 Stars Over The Sea – Very good effort at the Shergar Cup when really keen over 2m but knuckled down well for second. Drop back in trip will be ideal and now gets Pat Cosgrave in the plate.
4.40 Praeceps – Possibly undone by a tactical three-runner affair last time and is best judged on his win two starts ago. Likely to have more to come for his shrewd trainer and well worth another chance.
3.05 Exceeding Power – Is very consistent on a synthetic surface and will come on for his run earlier this month after a break. Now down to a decent mark and can win over this new trip.
3.20 Applesandpierres – Seems to really enjoy racing around Cartmel’s tight bends and only just lost out to Dear Sire two starts ago. Has a turnaround in the weights with that one here and that could make the difference.
2.45 Tickerty Boo – Not shown a huge amount in maiden hurdles but was sent off favourite at Market Rasen last time. Now gets another step up in trip and is capable of much better on handicap debut.
5.45 Barsanti – Likely to start off a short-price favourite but is difficult to oppose considering this is a big drop in class. Has to give weight away but is the class horse in the race and can win this confidence-booster.
6.45 Blazed – Ran a cracker at Nottingham on his penultimate start to finish second but wasn’t quite as good on the all-weather last time. Back on turf and after a wind operation he can get back on the score-sheet.
4.55 Island Song – Won her last three in good style and should be able to stomach a 5lb rise. Gets the services of one of the best amateurs around in this and will take the beating.
7.00 Lord Of The Rock – Despite being rated 91, he gets to race in a 0-90 and he could be too good for his rivals. Not been the same on his last two starts as he was when fourth in the Spring Mile, but this is an ease in grade and he can benefit.
