Sunday’s 2nd race from Sunland Park (12-24-17) is a $28,100 Allowance event for 3-year-olds and up which have never won three races. They will be dashing six furlongs on the main track.
#3 Passed by Paul (4-1) was in way too deep in the Zia Park Derby Nov 22 and he retreated to last at 74-1 odds. Before that, he ran well in a trio of allowance sprints at that same venue and any of those numbers put him in the picture throughout.
#7 Bernin Sensation (3-1) traded places with my top choice in his last two starts and he is a fresh early/pressing threat for quality connections. He has two bullets in his holster for this.
#6 Blue Azul (7-2) ran fast enough to win this in his last two flat mile starts but has never competed in a sprint. Eikleberry wins races with Evans and he sure looked good at Zia Park Nov 6.
#2 Consumerconfidence (5-2) is worth trying to beat at low odds. He was just an okay turf sprinter for Chad Brown and ended up 5th of 7 in his lone dirt try vs. maiden claiming foes. He has been training at Turf Paradise (bullet work Dec 1) for sharp layoff conditioner Shawn Davis but let’s see where he fits on this circuit before backing him on the win end.
#3 to win
