Timeform pick out their three best bets from Newcastle on Thursday…
“…both this track and extra distance should play to his strengths…”
Timeform on Taceec
This looks another good opportunity for Elysees Palace to record another victory after defying an eight-month absence to complete a hat-trick over a mile and a quarter here earlier this month. It took him quite a while to get on top that day, suggesting that this longer trip will be right up his street and, provided he can stand his racing – seemingly not the easiest to train – he should be able to stay ahead of the handicapper for some time yet. Dommersen and Glan Y Gors head up the opposition.
Taceec landed some nice bets when opening his account at Wolverhampton this month, confirming the promise of his run three days earlier, and he probably has even more to come, especially over this trip. He stayed on well to get on top close home over seven furlongs, and both this track and extra distance should play to his strengths. The fact he is allowed to race from a 2 lb lower mark here makes him very hard to oppose from a handicapping perspective, and he is strongly fancied to follow up. Miss Bates is still a maiden but should be thereabouts, while Irish Times is less exposed than most and needs a check in the betting back from 6 months off.
Master Diver made appeal on pedigree and shaped with a fair amount of promise on his recent debut at Wolverhampton, slowly away (dived markedly left) and hampered under three furlongs out. He was easy to back that day, too, suggesting connections expected him to be in need of the experience, but the manner in which he stayed on in the closing stages makes him of interest here and, with improvement expected, he is fancied to make his second start a winning one. Sporting Bill hasn’t been seen for 14 months, but is in excellent hands and would need taking seriously if the market speaks in his favour. Dawn Delight is another likely improver.
