CHALLOW third Kateson is likely to step up in trip on his next outing.
Trainer Tom Lacey has his eyes on the Albert Bartlett River Don Novices’ Hurdle at Doncaster for his six-year-old.
The Herefordshire based handler could step the grey up to an extended three miles after his creditable run in the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle at Newbury.
Lacey said: “I thought that was a fantastic run from Kateson in the Challow – I was very pleased with him.
“We might look at going for the River Don at Doncaster. That looks like the obvious target, although it would have to be soft ground for him to run.
“He is in great nick and has come out of the race at Newbury really well.”
Kateson is a best priced 40-1 for the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle at the Festival.
Champ is the antepost favourite at 5-1, with Sunday’s impressive winner Battleoverdoyen not far behind at a best-priced 6-1.
