NDHP General Manager Mike Schmitz said the Horse Park will likely only run six of the seven days, hosting races on Saturday, July 13, Sunday July 14; Friday July 19; Saturday July 20; Saturday July 27 and Sunday July 28. The middle weekend will have one Friday evening of racing and no racing on Sunday.
The Fargo AirSho is planned for Sunday, July 21 and Schmitz said the two events won’t conflict each other.
“This is exactly what we applied for this past season to navigate around the AirSho, which will again be hosted at the same time of our live race meet in middle July,” Schmitz said.
“In recent years we’ve run three weekends in a row, two days each weekend and that’s about the right sized race meet for the current horse population in our region,” he added.
Chippewa Downs will run on Saturdays and Sundays in June from June 8- 9; June 15-16; June 22-23; and June 29-30.
Schmitz said the 2019 season will likely be improved once the 19th Avenue North road project is complete. The road, which leads directly to the Horse Park, has been closed and under construction the past two years.
The Racing Commission approves dates for race meets but will approve funding for the two tracks at a meeting in 2019.
