Sired by Tapit, the half-brother of Horse of the Year California Chrome on Monday reached $1.1 million, marking a highlight during the Keeneland September Yearling Sale’s first afternoon.
Coolmore’s M.V. Magnier purchased Hip 141 who, as with California Chrome — the 2014 and 2016 Eclipse Award winner — is out of Love the Chase.
Bedouin Bloodstock, agent, consigned the colt.
Siblings to California Chrome haven’t had nearly as much success at the races as the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Dubai World Cup winner. But each of Hope’s Love, R Sunday Surprise and Faversham have been full siblings. Perhaps the leading sire Tapit’s influence on pedigree can stem the tide on the racetrack.
This story will be updated.
