She’s taking a drop in class here and trainer Richard Fahey is in decent form.
HANATI caught the eye when winning well on just her second start at Wolverhampton last time out.
That victory was over this distance but she shapes as though further will suit so this more testing surface should suit.
This looks like a similar contest to last time and you would expect improvement at this early stage of her career.
Kadiz was second to the to last time, the latest in a run of near-misses. She has plenty of pace for this distance and is 6lb better off at the weights today, which could bring them closer together.
So Hi Speed showed some promise last season and likes to go from the front. He’s been off for six months but a market move would be interesting.
SAMOVAR likes it here and can be forgiven for finishing seventh last time after almost tripping up coming out of the stalls.
That was his second mishap in a row as he unseated at the start the race before. So it’s a bit of risk but he has performed with credit in better races than this and is well weighted if able to get out of the boxes better.
Moonraker has won on two of his three visits here and battled well to score by half a length on New Year’s Day.
He was challenged for a long way there and is only 2lb higher in the weights today. He should be competitive again under Luke Morris.
Foolaad has obvious chances after a good second at Newcastle last time. He has winning form around here and should go well despite climbing the handicap.
TEMUR KHAN is stepping up in class but was very impressive when winning a maiden here last time.
He’s still 5lb lower than the last time he contested a handicap and he seems to have improved since stepping up to this distance.
He gives the impression that there could be even more to come. Dommersen has been knocking on the door at Newcastle and his form looks strong enough to take this.
The question mark comes over whether he’ll handle the track as he showed little on his only other race here.
Mr Carbonator is a consistent type who was third at Newcastle last time after finishing second here in December.
He seemed to stay this far then and must be considered with a capable 3lb claimer on board.
It’s worth taking a chance that odds-on jolly Jahbath doesn’t take to the Southwell surface on his first visit despite winning well at the very different Kempton on his past two outings.
At the prices, WHENAPOET has a chance given he dug as deep as the fibresand to win here last time out.
The horse clearly has a big heart for a fight and is the only one in the line-up sure to appreciate the going.
Coolagh Forest has a fitness edge over Balance Of Power who is coming back after a gelding operation.
The former hasn’t been hammered for his handicap debut and has run well on all three starts to date.
In a race where they are all proven on the track, GABRIALS CENTURION stands out for a battling victory over course and distance last time.
He looked cooked entering the closing stages after having had traffic problems. But he picked up well once in the clear to score with a little bit left in the tank.
The handicapper has been fair with a 4lb rise in the weights and he can strike again with a similar performance.
Mama Africa is taking a fair drop in class despite finishing a decent third at Southwell last time out.
She’s had a little nudge down the weights too which can’t hurt. She’s been lightly raced in the past couple of seasons and is capable of winning a race like this.
Dashing Poet was a solid second at Lingfield latest having earlier won in a similar contest to this before Christmas. This trip suits and he won’t be far away.
