Diamond Oasis was a winner for Alan yesterday, and our tipster completes his week with two final selections at Hexham on Thursday…

Bulkov can serve it up to his rivals

13:30 Hexham – Back Bulkov @ [5.0]

This is a tight little novice chase with only five runners, but the small field leads me to Bulkov. Back him at around [5.0].

He has to put behind him a couple of poor efforts over fences this season – including a race at Carlisle where he didn’t find any rhythm at all. He was far from fluent on that occasion.

With only four starts to date over fences, he is surely better than what we have seen so far. He was a tough 130-rated hurdler last term who showed winning form in testing conditions. So we shouldn’t be too disheartened by the heavy ground for Thursday.

However, it’s the angle of the cheekpieces here on for the first time that I like. This horse is best when dominating from the front, which makes plenty of appeal with only four rivals to face.

Hammond can fire in another winner at Hexham

14:30 Hexham – Back Late Date @ [3.40]

We are playing towards the top of the market here, and backing another Micky Hammond runner. Here’s hoping for a good day for the yard.

The case for Late Date is fairly straightforward. He is unexposed over fences, bred to stay, has won on soft and has only been raised 3lb for a fairly comfortable success at Sedgefield last time.

He made the running on that occasion and scored by two lengths. That came over 3m3f, so the stamina test that Hexham represents should play to his strengths. He looked a real stayer when he landed a hurdles’ race at Perth last spring on good ground – but he could be even better in testing conditions. He is by Oscar, and they tend to prefer deep ground.

From a mark of 101 he can dictate and I like his attitude.
