OUR experts give you an early shot at finding a winner as they look at the major races around the nation this weekend.

Last week … One winner. Slim pickings but it could have been so much as our team’s tips included seven second placings! Daily Telegraph racing editor Ray Thomas was on the money with Paret ($2.80), while Nick Quinn had the hardluck story after he came within 0.2 lengths of his sixth straight best bet winner when Tactical Advantage was pipped by Trekking.

GOLD COAST (9 races, 11.37am), ROYAL RANDWICK (9 races, start 12.05pm), CAULFIELD (9 races, 12.20pm), MORPHETTVILLE (8 races, 1.06pm), BELMONT (8 races, 2.28pm)

RAY THOMAS (Daily Telegraph). Form: 251×1

KAONIC (Race 9, No. 5 — $3.70)

The Chris Waller-trained four-year-old has always shown promise and he will have gained confidence from his first-up win. He can win again.

Value bet: BROOK MAGIC (Race 3, No. 3 — $4.40)

MATT JONES (Daily Telegragh). Form: 2522x

LE ROMAIN (Race 7, No. 1 — $2.90)

He has to give a lot of weight away but he’s good enough to overcome that and the three-time Group 1 winner is going as well as ever, according to trainer Kris Lees.

STEPHEN ZAMMIT (Daily Telegragh). Form: 15042

SHARPE HUSSLER (Race 3, No. 2 — $6.50)

This gelding is trained by Cameron Crockett and lines up here chasing a winning treble. Ran into trouble in the early stages and again on the turn but was still too good when scoring at Rosehill Gardens last start. Can continue on his winning way at Royal Randwick.

Value bet: I AM COLDPLAY (Race 8, No. 2 — $7)

JOHN DAVIS (Daily Telegragh). Form: 1×135

FIESTA (Race 4, No. 1 — $4.40)

Crack filly on the comeback trail following a handy autumn campaign, which included victory in the Widden Stakes before a luckless seventh in the Golden Slipper from a dud gate. Her two trials have been first class and this girl exudes class.

Value bet: DANAWI (Race 5, No. 9 — $4.80)

SHAYNE O’CASS (Sportsman). Form: 0601s

ALMANZORA (Race 3, No. 8 — $2.30)

Took up a lot of ink in the steward’s report subsequent to her very, very unlucky first-up run at Canterbury. She should have won, no doubt about it. James McDonald goes on and barrier two ought to see her revert back to her established pattern. Classy on her day, her form reads deeper than most of her rivals.

Value bet: I AM COLDPLAY (Race 8, No. 2 — $7)

DARREN PRENDERGAST (Superracing). Form: x6414

FIESTA (Race 6, No. 4 — $4.40)

Has impressed at the trials and looks set for a big spring campaign. She can start with a win.

Value bet: LUVALUVA (Race 8, No. 5 — $8)

MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun). Form: 11012

NAANTALI (Race 1, No. 2 — $2.15)

Won with something in hand last start at Moonee Valley when stepped up to 1500m. 1700m should suit even better and she looks a level above her rivals.

Value bet: INN KEPPER (Race 8, No. 5 — $5.50)

GLENN McFARLANE (Herald Sun). Form: 110s2

NAANTALI (Race 1, No. 2 — $2.15)

Smart mare chasing a hat-trick of wins and couldn’t have been more impressive last start.

Value bet: GRUNT (Race 7, No. 13 — $5)

CHRIS VERNUCCIO (SuperRacing). Form: 211s3

NAANTALI (Race 1, No. 2 — $2.15)

Beat a similar field quite convincingly last time. She’s got the best closing sprint in the field and shouldn’t have any issues stepping up to 1700m.

Value bet: ANOTHER COLDIE (Race 6, No. 10 — $5.50)

NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: 11112

TONY NICCONI (Race 5, No. 6 — $2.40)

Could not have been any more impressive winning on debut at Caulfield in June and looks the ideal horse to stick with through his three year-old campaign.

Value bet: WRITE ENUFF (Race 6, No. 9 — $11)

NATHAN EXELBY (The Courier-Mail). Form: 11s23

DIVINE MESSENGER (Race 7, No. 12 — $4.60)

Not suited by a lack of tempo last time and before that was beaten by a classy one, where she finished on front of her talented stablemate Shesees Everything. With good speed up front and a barrier that will keep her in front of a few, she should be close enough to strike at the right time here.

Value bet: COLINELLE (Race 3, No. 8 — $5.50)

LINCOLN MOORE (The Advertiser). Form: 4s225

MOGHUL EMPIRE (Race 8, No. 2 — $6)

Impressive winning at gawler before raising the bar and getting the job done against Moonee Valley last preparation. Spelled after he failed last start but has trialled well behind smart stablemate and Spring Stakes hopeful Steel frost. Jamie Kah jumps on and looks the one to beat.

Value bet: DEBT COLLECTOR (Race 4, No. 8 — $4.20)
