OUR experts give you an early shot at finding a winner as they look at the major races around the nation this weekend.

Last week … Six winners. TAB’s Nick Quinn continued his hot form, nailing his fifth straight best bet with Call Me Handsome ($3.20). No pressure this week! Shayne O’Cass got the ball rolling at Randwick with Military Zone ($8), while Darren Prendergast saved his best for last with Soothing ($3). Stephen Zammit was on the money with his value bet Magic Choir ($7.10). Michael Manley bounced back to winning form with Naantali ($2.15) and Chris Vernuccio was spot on with his value bet, Streets Of Avalon ($3.20).

SATURDAY (AEST)

DOOMBEN (9 races, 11.32am), ROSEHILL GARDENS (9 races, start 12pm), FLEMINGTON (9 races, 12.15pm), MORPHETTVILLE PARKS (8 races, 1.01pm), BELMONT (8 races, 2.23pm)

ROSEHILL GARDENS

RAY THOMAS (Daily Telegraph). Form: 3251x

PARET (Race 9, No. 7 — $2.60)

Racing with renewed vigour and enthusiasm this campaign. The Chris Waller-trained Paret has always been regarded as a horse of real talent but he is only now starting to realise his potential. He ran on well for third behind Star Of Monsoon first-up then was very impressive beating Snitzel Day over 1400m. Although coming back slightly in trip to 1350m and going up in grade, he can keep winning.

Value bet: EMPEROR’S WAY (Race 7, No. 6 — $9)

STEPHEN ZAMMIT (Daily Telegragh). Form: 21504

TACTICAL ADVANTAGE (Race 5, No. 2 — $2.25)

Hailing from the Kris Lees yard, this gelding sat midfield to the bend before powering away to score in easy fashion over this distance at Randwick on July 21. Has won second-up previously and Hugh Bowman jumps in the saddle this time.

Value bet: CHARGE (Race 6, No. 8 — $7)

NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: 11111

TACTICAL ADVANTAGE (Race 5, No. 2 — $2.25)

Could not have been any more impressive winning last start and looks well placed to make it back to back victories for the new stable.

Drawn nicely and looks a strong anchor bet.

Value bet: FLOW (Flem Race 8, No. 7 — $9.50)

JOHN DAVIS (Daily Telegragh). Form: 41×13

SIR PLUSH (Race 5, No. 3 — $19)

Gets the chance to turn the tables on Tactical Advantage after their July Sprint clash, with a slight edge in the weights. Expect him to be a closer to the action from a middle gate and has a fifty per cent winning strike rate at this trip.

Value bet: SONS OF JOHN (Race 7, No. 3 — $18)

SHAYNE O’CASS (Sportsman). Form: 70601

I AM COLDPLAY (Race 8, No. 2 — $12)

This mare by Savabeel has won six of her 22 runs and placed three times. She is 5s 2-0-2 at 1400m, while she also has a good fresh record.

Value bet: ROYAL STAMP (Race 2, No. 9 — $12)

DARREN PRENDERGAST (Superracing). Form: 2×641

PLAGUE STONE (Race 6, No. 4 — $2.60)

Lonhro colt looks set for a big spring after scoring a strong first-up win. Stick with him.

MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun). Form: 31101

PREZADO (Race 2, No. 6 — $2.25)

Value bet: BARTHELONA (Race 8, No. 14 — $6.50)

GLENN McFARLANE (Herald Sun). Form: 1110s

GOLD MAG (Race 5, No. 11 — $1.85)

CHRIS VERNUCCIO (SuperRacing). Form: 3211s

MANTASTIC (Race 9, No. 6 — $2.70)

Finally broke through for his maiden Australian victory and can keep winning. Suspect he could be even better at Flemington at 1700m.

Value bet: BARTHELONA (Race 8, No. 14 — $6.50)

Video obtained Tuesday, August 7, 2018 of jockey Hugh Bowman speaking to reporters after Winx finished third in a barrier trial at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in Sydney. “I was very impressed with her (Winx), I asked her to do a little bit more than I did in the first trial,” he said. “She’s ready to go to the races now, she felt as good as she looked.” (AAP VIDEO/Supplied/Sky Racing)

SIMON MOY (SuperRacing). Form: 31453

DOOMBEN

NATHAN EXELBY (The Courier-Mail). Form: 911s2

FROM WITHIN (Race 4, No. 11 — $3.10)

Resumes for the Toby Edmonds stable here after being shopped around in Sydney a few times. One time Magic Millions favourite who is yet to win since her debut, but has generally taken on much stronger races than this. She did it easily to win a recent trial. Even though she hasn’t lived up to expectations, a couple of ratings from her runs last prep would make a mess of this field. Happy to gamble on her being right.

Value bet: PLEASED (Race 7, No. 9 — $8)

MORPHETTVILLE PARKS

LINCOLN MOORE (The Advertiser). Form: 54s22

THE BEDOUIN (Race 4, No. 7 — $2.70)

Has been solid two effort across the border in Melbourne.

Drops back in class here on those efforts, stable places their horses extremely well and looks the one to beat with Jamie Kah in the saddle.

Value bet: VALLIANO (Race 8, No. 7 — $5.50)
