1.15 LEOPARDSTOWN: ‘Sugar Paddy’ Grade 1 Chase

Footpad will be a hot favourite for this race but he has a major handicap to overcome on the trends — falling last time out.

None of the past 10 winners took a tumble on their most recent start, with nine finishing in the first four.

So, with a skinny price on offer, we’ll look beyond the Willie Mulluns runner.

Given that winning last time is pretty important, we’ll also cross out Doctor Phoenix, Ordinary World and Simply Ned. Great Field is another who hit the deck last time.

So we’re left with a shootout between Ballyoisin and Castlegrace Paddy.

The latter did well to win at Cork last time but is taking a fair step up in class and likes plenty of give in the ground.

Outsiders have a good record in this so an each-way bet could pay off.

But BALLYOISIN is proven over the distance and this sound surface should be ideal. He wouldn’t have to improve much to life this nice prize.
