Despite the odds, the Fergal O’Brien-trained runner has plenty going for her and is one of just five in the 20-runner field who won last time out.
She has a respectable strike rate – finishing in the first three on 10 of her 16 attempts over fences – and the latest of five chase wins saw her registering a career-best performance over an inadequate two-and-a-half miles at Lingfield.
Jennys Surprise (nap, 2.50) seemed to have been beaten off with two fences to jump on that seasonal return, yet she rallied to lead in the final strides.
With proven form over 3m4f, the 10-year-old mare can be expected to give a good spin up near the leaders in this marathon for Paddy Brennan, who is bidding to win the race for the first time.
The other good bet on the televised Chepstow card is Touch Kick (nb, 1.05).
This progressive chaser from the in-form Paul Nicholls stable lurks among the bottom weights on 10st 7lb yet is clearly on the upgrade.
He won for today’s pilot Sam Twiston-Davies on his comeback at Hereford where he found a great late run to snatch the prize.
It was in a much more valuable and competitive affair at Newbury next time in which he was a well beaten runner-up to Aso, but the latter could prove a bit special.
Anapurna (treble, 1.10) has the pedigree of a filly who could reach the summit – by the mighty world champion Frankel out of a mare who was pipped in the Group One Yorkshire Oaks.
It will be disappointing if she is not good enough to make a winning start to her career in this modest novice stakes at Wolverhampton.
