ROB HORNBY was left red-faced at Wolverhampton after riding a finish a circuit too early.
Hornby had picked up the ride on James Unett’s Almutamarred in the final race on the card, a handicap over a mile and three quarters.
However, he then picked up a 12-day ban following his mistake.
On the first circuit, Hornby kicked for home and rode Almutamarred to the line before easing up, thinking he had won.
It only kicked in as the other jockeys continued round the turn to go out on the final circuit of the race.
Almutamarred went off a 16-1 shot and the race was eventually won by Willyegolassie at 18-1.
A statement issued by the Wolverhampton stewards read: “Rob Hornby, the rider of Almutamarred (USA), unplaced, had appeared to ride a finish a circuit too soon.
“After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, the rider was suspended for 12 days.”
