Ridden by jockey Ozcan Yildirm, the four-year-old horse took the honours in the Group 2 race over 1600 metres by a length from Rhythm Divine ridden by Halis Karatas, who had to settle for the second position.

Ulan Bator, ridden by Ahmet Çelik, crossed the finish line in third place a further two lengths back with Storm Sea Swell and Drive Faster in fourth and fifth respectively.

The comfortable margin of success by Runner Bull and Yildirm was made all the more impressive as they completed the course in a winning time of only 1.33.05 to take the first prize of 459,000 euros.

Victory for Yildirm was also part of a quartet of victories for the jockey on Sunday. Earlier victories on Sharpa in the 1600 metre race for three year olds and with Saadin Gucu in a similar distance race for Purebred Arabians were then added to The Longines International Topkapi Trophy with Runner Bull and Kralsin in the 1400 metre handicap.

Karatas may have had to settle for second in Sunday’s feature race but there was victory for the jockey in the 1200 metre condition race for thoroughbreds with Strong Hand winning by a neck. That win became a double and in the penultimate race of the day, the Group 3 1200 metre contest for two year old thoroughbreds, on The Last Romance who romped home by three and a half lengths.

The Longines International Topkapi Trophy is one of the feature races and part of the Longines International Racing Festival, a weekend of horse racing that takes place at the Veliefendi Racecourse in late summer.

The first of them took place on Saturday and ended with the triumph of the German Lillie-Marie Engels on the back of Masai Mara, while in the Longines Fegentri on Sunday the winner was the Swiss Naomi Heller with Crassus.

Another of Sunday’s big races was the International Bosphorus Cup in which Finesse was an impressive winner. Run over a distance of 2400 metres, jockey Shohei Kaya rode Finesse to a three and a half length victory over Hasafet (under jockey Karatas) in second and Serhuncan (with Ahmet Çelik) in third position respectively.
