THREE Group races from Newmarket headline a fantastic Friday of racing around the country, with the Joel Stakes the highlight of the day.
The Sun Racing team have been studying the form and picked out their best bets and each-way picks for today’s four meetings.
3.35 Regal Reality – Found the heavy ground against him last time and is best judged on a impressive win at Glorious Goodwood. Still lightly raced and open to plenty of improvement for his top trainer.
1.50 Ellthea – Was fourth in the Fillies’ Mile season and although has not built on that since, has been competing in stronger races than this. Likes the track and will appreciate the drop in grade now equipped with first-time cheekpieces.
4.25 Fannie By Gaslight – Clearly well suited by soft conditions, she impressively made all at Goodwood on her penultimate start. Found the drop in trip against her last time but now tackles a mile and a three quarters and that can see her back to winning ways.
4.55 Custom Cut – He may be getting older but the handicapper is loosening his grip on David O’Meara’s veteran and he will surely strike again soon. He goes very well in soft ground which is more than can be said for plenty of his rivals.
7.15 Harbour Approach – Won nicely at Kempton last time out and although carries a 6lb victory for that, looks progressive. Has form on Tapeta as well as polytrack and doesn’t take on the strongest calibre of rivals.
8.15 Testa Rossa – It could be worth chancing Jim Goldie’s challenger, who has been out of form recently but has dropped to a mark 8lb lower than when bolting up at the track in January. Wasn’t beaten that far at Ayr last time and could be hard to beat from the foot of the weights.
2.15 King Alfonso – Gone from strength to strength in his last couple of runs, winning a selling hurdle before striking in a handicap chase at Bangor. Up in the weights but probably capable of dispatching these rivals, too.
3.25 Milan Of Crystal – Likes the track and has dropped to a good mark. Not a very strong race and can bounce back here.
