Racing comes from Newcastle this evening and these three horses may be worth keeping an eye on . . .
Beryl The Petal
David O’Meara saddles this three-year-old who has been running well without winning in recent weeks. She was second at Wolverhampton in December and finished in the same spot a fortnight ago when touched off in a photo-finish. Only 1lb higher today, the mount of Conor McGovern can go close again.
Simon Gibson’s black silks with a red and blue stripe were made famous when carried to fame by the brilliant Society Rock, and the son of that star sprinter could provide more success in those colours tonight. The James Fanshawe-trained four-year-old missed all of last season but ran well in two maidens as a juvenile.
Rab Havlin was narrowly touched off when riding this sprinter at Wolverhampton back in November and the pair team up on the same mark today. The eight-year-old hasn’t won since 2016 but will relish today’s conditions.
